Der, die or das?
der Großvater

The plural
die Großväter - in the plural, every German noun takes the article die.
Example
Abends erzählt der Großvater gern alte Geschichten.
In the evenings, the grandfather likes telling old stories.
Why der?
"Großvater" doesn't follow any of the 35 gender rules -
